Prior to joining RL Datix as their Medical Director, Darren trained in Emergency Medicine in the North-West of England as well as Australia and, following an initial subspecialty interest in medical education, worked in several leadership roles in Greater Manchester alongside his consultant post. As Deputy Medical Director at East Cheshire Trust, he led a project to introduce electronic job planning and medical staff rostering across the entire organisation yielding the largest agency spend savings in the country, following which he advised the NHS central team on temporary staffing strategy. Darren subsequently took up the position of Executive Medical Director in Chester and led the Trust’s clinical workforce through the Covid-19 Pandemic, gaining national recognition for the whole-system roster for medical staff he introduced at that time. He holds a master’s in healthcare business administration from Keele Business School and his PhD thesis examined the sociological aspects of medical training in the UK. He previously chaired both NHS Employers’ National Medical Workforce Forum and NHS Providers National Medical and Nursing Directors’ Group.
